About This Course
- Multisensory
- Structured
- Intensive
NOW! Writing was developed in an attempt to fill the gap between reading sentences and understanding their meaning. We found that children and adults with dyslexia and other learning disabilities often have a hard time understanding what the most important pieces of a sentence are, and subsequently, have a difficult time creating a mental movie from written sentences.
By using a multi-sensory approach that incorporates auditory, visual, imagery and kinesthetic learning, students are able to distinguish parts of sentences more clearly, not just memorizing parts of speech, but truly discovering what each part means, how they function in a sentence, and how each part adds to the overall meaning of the sentence.
How Does It Work?
The NOW! Writing program uses Socratic questioning to help students categorize and scaffold the language that they use, starting at the word level. Students quickly progress to planning, dissecting, and writing paragraphs while systematically increasing their structure and content. Once students are able to identify how words work in isolation, they can identify them in context and also how language works together to convey meaning.
- Younger, primary-aged, students explore organization, planning, and mapping across content.
- Students at the intermediate level and above do not stop there, but transition from paragraph to essay.
- Critical thinking skills are encouraged once students demonstrate mastery of their own expressive language.
Upon completion of the NOW! Writing course, students show a marked improvement in their overall writing skills (from sentences to paragraphs to essays), as well as with their speaking skills.

When I first heard Dr. Conway speak at an early childhood conference, where I was also speaking, his words were music to my ears. Have spent 15 years in youth prevention work. When he said the #3 killer of teenagers is suicide and 89% of teen suicide notes have spelling errors consistent with dyslexia, I knew I needed his help with my kids. That’s not the thing a normal mom of a 5-year-old thinks. But I knew something wasn’t right. I didn’t know what the problem was and I didn’t know how to fix it until the first conversation with Dr. Conway of NOW! Programs. Our son is now reading on grade level for the first time. He’s also feeling “as good as the other kids” and being teased less, if at all. This program didn't just give my kid the ability to read, it quite possibly saved his life.
